Jim Dowson <jmd@macnexus.org>: Great work Les, it's always interesting to read about other peoples experiences and how they coped.
I'm going to adding a couple of pics to the WK site soon and a little bit about my experiences there.
I haven't run across anyone that went there the same time as I did that I knew but they have to be out there somewhere so I'm hoping that they will check in soon before they check out. 12-Jul-06

Derek Lehrle <lehrle@ps.gen.nz>: Hi Les.
Jim Aitken put me onto your site and I am pleased he did. I was brought up in Warrington and Lived at Padgate after I was married in 1963. The camp had closed by then. Years before I had passed the camp many times and remember the Spitfire gate guard they had. I was called up for national service in 1957 but Padgate had closed by that time. I went for kitting out to Cardington instead and a week later to West Kirby like yourself. Didn't know what had hit us at first. Mind you it was a well trained group that passed out eigth weeks later. I was in Roosevelt Squadron. Upon leaving there I was trained in radio reception at RAF Locking and then posted to a small camp called RAF Chia Keng in Singapore. Smashing little camp and I was lucky to have served there. I have made up a web site so have a look. www.freewebs.com/roverjag/ I now live in New Zealand and pleased to call Jim Aitken and Jack Riley mates even though it is just with eamails. I Liked the site Les. Kne 26-Nov-05
Jack Riley <jck_riley@yahoo.com.au>: Interesting site, Les. We have this is common......I set off for Burma at Ealing Broadway. My family lived at Hayes End and I worked at Lloyds Bank Hanwell whilst waiting to be old enough to get into the mob.
I now live in Australia and am happy to call Jim a mate.
Go well.

Like yourself involved in the Berlin Airlift but in the U.K. I was in signals at R.A.F. Bushy Park H.Q.(U.)T.C.
All the best regards to you

Terrific stuff Les. I am so glad you took the trouble to put your RAF memories on the web. With luck these pages of ours will be available long after we are gone.
Now that you know how easy it is to create a website, you need to encourage all your old service contacts to do likewise.
We served during a historic moment of time in the RAF and this has to be recorded.
Will keep calling back as you progress and I have a link to your site from mine .....see address above in email spot.
Cheers mate....
