I received the following letter and attachment from Roy Harper.
Dear Les,
Please forgive this direct approach, but it appears to be the most effective way to get in touch with ex RAF Lyneham ‘Old Boys’.

Dear Sir,
At the Final RAF Lyneham Parade I commented to several Station Commanders that it was a pity that there was no affordable item of memorabilia to recognise the history of Air Transport in Wiltshire. I was persuaded to `have a go' and produce something that would be unique to RAF Lyneham. I researched the commissioning of an oil painting but the costs are outside my reach, and the time scale was too long.
Since then I have worked on an image that, along with The RAF Lyneham Crest, displays The Comet Gate Guard, a Britannia, and The Hercules `K' and `J'. A professional photographer kindly allowed me to use one of his pictures, the centre piece, and waive issues of copyright. A photographic designer has done much of the work in laying out the image. The unique selling point is the signatures of twenty Station Commanders, acquired over many months that have been digitally applied to the image.
The aim of the exercise is to sell 250 prints to gain funds for RAF Charities.
I am in contact with The RAFA, and intend to approach The RAF Benevolent Fund to see if they can help with publicity and sales. However, I decided to test the water, in these hard times, to find out if any interest exists out there for this product. I am happy to report that without advertising I have sold a number of canvass prints to local businesses in Lyneham and Wootton Bassett. I have been offered £50, while one of the orders is agreed at £30. Somewhat better than I expected!
I believe I can provide canvass prints in time for Christmas through my supplier (a retired RAF airman). To achieve this orders must be are received prior to the 12th December 2011. The printer has charged me nothing for the test and sample prints.
To date the project has zero costing because I am covering the cost of travel and postage etc to get the show on the road. Nobody will `take a cut' of the income after the printer has submitted his bill. The printer has kindly agreed to charge me when orders are confirmed and paid for to avoid a financial burden (the only printer who offered this level of support).
The print is on canvass and measures 50cm x 40cm (approx 15” x 20”). The canvass can be produced in either Matt or Gloss finish. Should you be interested in ordering a print then I will be happy to sell them to you for a minimum of £15 (+ £2.48 postage and packing).
I look forward to hearing from you. Please inform squadron personnel, colleagues, friends and family about this venture because they may consider this as a suitable Christmas present!
Yours Aye
Roy Harper
